Bubye Valley Conservancy’s SHOOT a LION raffle shocks the whole world.

Another SHOOT a LION raffle has the world stunned. The winner will either receive a trophy shot by lions or a photo safari with two photographers during which a male Lion will be captured for scientific research. Six months ago, Cecil was wounded by an arrow. The lion was then found forty hours later. One hundred tickets for WIN A LION are available at $1 ,500 and one ,015) per ticket. According to Zimbabwe’s Bubye Valley Conservancy (associated with Oxford University), the winner will receive an 18-day safari. Its website states that it collaborated with Oxford’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit, (WildCRU), on several projects. According to the raffle organizers, Zimbabwe’s lion population is too high. They need to reduce it. The raffle organizers claim that allowing people to spend a lot of money to hunt them generates the much-needed financial support needed to maintain this species. (Image: bubyevalleyconservancy.com) David Jones, Conservative MP for Clwyd West, who has lobbied against lion trophy imports, said: “This is shocking and Oxford University should be distancing itself from this immediately. These events are disgusting.” Raffle to shoot lions to make money. According to Martin Nel Safaris (organizer of the raffle), it’s being done to generate funds required to support the Bubye Val Conservancy Lion Research Programme. The killing of Cecil, a Zimbabwean lion, by Walter Palmer (an American dentist) in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, in July 2013 shocked the entire world. He shot him with an archer ‘for fun’. WildCRU raised hundreds of thousands of pounds after launching the Cecil Appeal. WildCRU, the University of Oxford’s Wildlife Conservation Research Unit 2014, described Cecil’s killing as illegal. Oxford University was conducting a study on Cecil, the lion that was an attraction in Zimbabwe. Walter Palmer, an American big-game hunter and dentist, shot Cecil with an archer. After being tracked down, he was shot dead with his rifle 40 several hours later. In an interview with Daily Mail, Professor David McDonald stated that WIldCRU’s Head said: “This initiative has nothing to do me, and I have not heard anything about it.” While I wouldn’t personally agree to fund my unit through raffling an lion hunt, what the Bubye Valley Conservancy does is entirely up to them.” Martin Nel told the Daily Mail that the initiative was “nothing to do with me” and said: “Everyone involved in Africa research knows that trophy hunting plays a role in conserving the continent. MP David Jones believes such events are’sickening. (Image: twitter.com/DavidJonesMP) What happens when a male lion is killed? David Macdonald, wildcru.org’s editor, wrote last July that Cecil, the lion was killed and the weaker coalition of males is taken over. Cecil’s brother may still be holding the fort. This could not occur because Cecil is still alive. Animal charities around the world appalled UK Charity LionAid on its website: “We are shocked and appalled that this raffle prize of a lion hunt will be offered to raise funds.” Video: Outrage following Cecil the Lion’s death
