. A macaque monkey type with a round penis was discovered in the Chinese state of Modog in southeastern Tibet. The ‘white-cheeked monkey’ is Macaca Leucogenys. Cheng Li (from the Imaging Biodiversity Expedition, China), Chao Zhao (China) and Peng-Fei Fan (China), both of the Institute of Eastern-Himalaya Biodiversity Research (China), published their findings in the American Journal of Primatology. In an abstract in the journal the authors stated that the new species was distinguished by its dark and hairy scrotum, which is a characteristic of other macaques. The new species thrives in different habitat types According to the data collected, researchers discovered that the macaque has adapted to a variety of habitats, including tropical forests located at 1 ,395 metre altitude and primary and secondary broad-leaved evergreen broadleaved forests at 2 ,000 meter. The macaques were also discovered at 2 ,700 meter in mixed broadleaf and conifer forests. The New Scientists quotes Paul Garber (Executive Editor of American Journal of Primatology), who stated: “It’s an area where very little scientific exploration has been done, partly due to political conflicts.” Chao Zhao said that the forest of Modog was like a nature library and very little is known about it. The discovery of the macaque species may indicate that some species are still unknown in this region.
