. Energy from Earth’s core, also known as geothermal, is a renewable energy resource. While other renewable sources, such as solar and wind energy, are dependent on weather conditions, geothermal energy is different. The core is the most hot place below the Earth’s surface. The heat radiating and heating water, gas and rocks is a well-known fact. Other natural resources such as hot springs and steam hydrothermal valves are also sources of geothermal power. These resources contain geothermal heat that can be used to generate electricity. You can also use geothermal heat as heat. Converting geothermal heat to electricity, however, is a completely different process. We’ll explore it further below. Geothermal Energy – How to Produce Electricity. Flash Steam Flare Steam power plants use geothermal energy to produce electricity. They often heat water from geothermal reservoirs that has a temperature of 183degC. This extremely hot water flows up through the ground to wells, where it is pressured. The pressure will drop and the water evaporates quickly into energy. The energy, or steam, will be then separated from the water. It can then be siphoned off to make power for generators and turbines. This technique is most commonly used in volcanoes like Iceland and the Philippines. The Dry Steam Power Plant This power plant relies mostly on underground natural steam sources. This steam is then directly vented into a geothermal power station and used to generate electricity or power turbines. This is also the first power plant to generate electricity from geothermal sources. Different valves can be used for dry steam components of power plants, as with all other types: China ball valves, gate valves, control valves, and so on. One advantage this type of powerplant has over all other methods is its one-of-a kind ability to produce steam. The water temperature can be set at 57degC. Binary fluid use with lower boiling points will allow thermal energy from water reservoirs to be converted into steam by using it as a binary fluid. This can be used in conjunction with the turbine system to create electricity. The water from geothermal reservoirs shouldn’t come in direct contact with any binary fluid. Through the injection wells, the water is returned to the reservoir where it undergoes the process of regenerating thermal energy. After the heat exchanger has transferred the thermal energy to the binary fluid, this is what happens. The thermal efficiency of geothermal plants is . The binary system energy makes it possible to harness more geothermal power, by decreasing the temperature requirements from water reservoirs. Cogeneration – Heat and Power Combination. The thermal rate is usually less than 10-24%, depending on where it’s located, what type of power plant it (geothermal), or other factors. The low efficiency rate will have little effect on operational costs since most power plants rely on heating binary fluid. The thermal rate can affect the production of electricity, but this will not have an effect on the byproducts, heated water, and exhaust heat. They serve many purposes. There are many benefits to using geothermal energy products, other than producing electricity. The process of geothermal cogeneration is described as: Greenhouses, timber mills and hot springs. Heating districts. Desalination of snow and other industrial processes. Electricity generation or transportation is the same process as other power plants, such as solar or wind. To minimize loss, the electrical grid sends the voltage-amplified current to the other end. It also requires a durable and insulated pipe circuit to transmit heat over long distances. We all know how vital electricity is to our daily lives. Electricity will always be a vital resource, whether it is for personal or commercial use. It doesn’t matter where you live, electricity will continue to be produced and consumed no matter what. It is important for consumers to understand how electricity from geothermal power stations is generated. There is much more to turning the heater on or off than meets the eyes. Every watt of electricity generated is subject to a critical process. ______________________________________________ Interesting related article: “What is Renewable Energy?”
