. A thirteen-year-old lion had been kept in an unsanitary cage. For the first time, he touched grass and earth. When he felt the soil beneath, his first instinct was to grab it with both of his hands and begin digging. The sanctuary released the footage below. You can see him running around his enclosure enjoying the chance to grab the soil and tear it down. This scene was shot nine years ago (2006), and only recently emerged. Will passed away in 2011.. He spent the last five years of his life enjoying the feeling under his paws. Will began by grabbing the grass and earth with his paws. He enjoyed lying in the grass looking up at the sky. After more than 10 years of restricted mobility and having to act in an animal circus, Will was finally moved from Brazil to Ranch of Gnomes Ecological Sanctuary (Santuario Ecologico Rancho Dos Gnomos). On its website, the sanctuary stated that “To date, our YouTube channel has received more than 1,000,000 thousand hits.” The video on our Facebook page has 415,000 views and over 1,000,000 people have seen it.” Will was left with psychological and physical problems after thirteen years of being kept in small cells. The Sanctuary staff explained that Will was raised in captivity and was middle-aged at the time he arrived. He would have struggled to survive in the wild, not even in an African reserve. Will had suffered years of abuse that left him with many psychological and physical problems. According to the Sanctuary, Will was born in Brazil. We made every effort to ensure that he lived a happy, dignified life. The Sanctuary currently needs donations for the “Animal Sanctuary Campaign”. Video: Will’s first touch of earth with his paws
