Londoners have the lowest selfie taking rates of any of the six major cities in the world. A’selfiecity” study found that Londoners take the least selfies of the six largest cities. Comparing to those in New York, Berlin, Moscow, Sao Paulo and New York, Londoners are the least happy when taking self-portraits using their smartphone. The researchers analyzed 152,462 selfies posted in Instagram taken in central London between the 21st and 27th of September, 2015. Moritz Stefaner, Lev Manovich and a group of art historians, data scientists and designers used facial recognition software to identify the most unhappy faces in self-portraits from Londoners. When taking selfies, Londoners are the least happy. Here are some highlights from the study. Average age – males in London: The average age for male selfies in London was 28, higher than 26.3 year, which is the standard for other cities. Average age for females in London was 23.7, which is almost identical to the 23.6-year average across all cities. 62.8% were female selfies in London. 37.2% were male. Comparison of males and females: The proportions of female selfies taken in other cities included 82% Moscow, Sao Paulo 4%, New York 61.6%; Bangkok 2%. Wearing glasses: in London, 29% of selfies had people wearing glasses, compared to 18% in the other cities. London has more selfies with people looking down than other cities. The proportion of male selfies in all six cities was much higher than the percentage of female ones. Researchers discovered an interesting trend when they looked at a London map that showed popular and lesser-known spots to take pictures.
