Boris Johnson is the London Mayor. They are currently listening to cities and how they could make use of water from rivers and the sea to keep them cool in a world where temperatures rise due to climate change. Cities will heat up faster and air conditioning will become more expensive for households and businesses. A simple technique that uses water from Paris’s river Seine to cool buildings near Champs Elysees was demonstrated at the Global Mayors Summit. He admitted that he didn’t want to confess it, but that the French were ahead of us in this area. It works by pumping water from the Seine around people’s homes, similar to ordinary pumped-water cooling. The water temperature is brought down using technology similar to the one used in cooling refrigerators. They met at Paris City Hall (Hotel de Ville) to discuss climate change. The meeting took place during the 2015, United Nations Climate Change Conference also known as COP 21, or the Paris Climate Talks. It ends December 11th. Johnson stated that his main focus was on determining how to heat and cool London in low-carbon ways using natural gas. This makes up nearly 50% percent of the city’s carbon emissions. Mr. Johnson remembered the Paris terrorist attack victims. Johnson took a break from his meeting to place a rose in the Bataclan concert venue in honor of those who were killed by terrorists on November 13th. In Paris, 130 were all killed that day. Three ISIS terrorists attacked the Bataclan concert hall and murdered 89 members of the Californian rock group Eagles of Death Metal. Police shot one of the terrorists dead, while two others were blued up and detonated their suicide vests. Outside the concert venue, Mr. Johnson, and Peter Ricketts (British Ambassador to France), laid a rose.
