A professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem spoke during a Hay Festival talk in Wales. He said that robots and humans will become powerful and everlasting cyborgs. This will only be possible for the wealthy. Professor Yuval Noah Harari (an Israeli historian, and author of Sapiens: A Brief history of Humankind), stated that only the wealthy will have the ability to pay for expensive upgrades, such as the purchase of a new computer or a laptop. The super-rich will be human-robot hybrids, as science allows for the integration of cyborg technology and living flesh. Professor Harari thinks that the merger between machine and humans will mark the “biggest evolutionary step in biology” since the appearance of life on Earth four billion years ago. Future human-cyborg hybrids will look as unlike us as chimps. Professor Harari of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Department of History claims that humans will overcome death. He says they will be almost as divine after they have overcame their mortality. Nature makes us unhappy with the things we have. People who have the money will be tempted to undergo technological and genetic engineering improvements. The 200 year’s cyborg-like humans will likely be just as different than us from other primates, such as chimps and gorillas. Professor Harari stated that “I believe it’s likely in the next 200 year or so homo sapiens upgrade themselves to some idea of divine being,” and the wealth gap would be wider than today. Cyborg technology will not be affordable and it won’t be available to everyone. Socioeconomically our society will likely split, and the average person may die within 100 year, while a few people could last for almost forever. Humans have always needed religions or gods to understand their lives and give them a framework. As technology has advanced over the centuries, so too did the requirement for god crutches. Professor Yuval Noah Harari was a Hebrew-born Israeli scientist. He was born in Haifa in 1976.. His Ph.D. was obtained from Oxford University in 2002.. Image: ynharari.com Prof. Harari thinks that humans are becoming more aware of the fact that technology is their only god, and no need for Gods. The most fascinating place on the planet today, from a religious perspective, is not the Middle East. It is Silicon Valley. Here, people view death as merely another problem to solve. In a separate presentation at Hay Festival, Hannah Critchlow (a Cambridge neuroscientist) said that we might one day be able download our brains to a supercomputer. This will happen as soon as computers can recreate 100 trillion brain connections. Video: An interview with Professor Harari during the Hay Festival
