Sarah Brightman is a British classical crossover soprano and songwriter. She also acts as an actress, singer, and dancer. Her flight to the International Space Station was originally scheduled for later in the year. Brightman cited “personal family reasons”. The platinum-selling singer, who had been scheduled to fly into space as a tourist on September 1st, paid PS ($50millionsmillion), did not give any further details. Most believe that her mother is the reason she has stopped training. Brightman stopped her training and returned to England in January. The UK media attributed this to Brightman’s mother becoming ill. Brightman posted her gratitude on her blog to NASA, Star City, GCTC, Energia and Roscosmos for supporting her during this “exciting time” in her life. Eric Anderson, Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Space Adventures, Ltd., stated: “Since 2012, Sarah shared her journey of fulfilling her lifelong dream of flying to space. She is the best-selling soprano in the world, and her story has been shared around the globe. Her determination is admirable and we will continue to support her in her pursuit of a spaceflight opportunity. Satoshi Takamatsu may replace Brightman. Space Adventures still has not confirmed whether Satoshi Takamatsu (a Japanese advertising executive) will be taking Brightman’s place. Andreas Enevold Mogensen (Danish engineer, European Space Agency astronaut) tweeted: “Sad loss of a great crew mate. Good luck Sarah. Spaceflights are on hold Spaceflights from and to the International Space Station remain on hold following the April 2015. failure of the Progress cargoer. Shortly after its launch, the cargo ship lost control and eventually disintegrated when it entered Earth’s atmosphere. Russian space officials claimed that the Soyuz rocket’s problems caused Thursday’s failure. According to Roscosmos, the problem with Progress 59′ was caused by it separating too soon from Soyuz’s third stage. This has been confirmed in a preliminary investigation.
