Ted Cruz (the junior US Senator from Canada) seems determined to debunk global warming. This phenomenon is believed by most scientists around the world. He describes it as scaremongering and bad science. He compared himself with Galileo Galilei (1564, an Italian mathematician and physicist who was also an engineer, philosopher, engineer, astronomer and physicist. This is one of the key players during the Renaissance’s scientific revolution. Galileo championing heliocentrism – the idea that Earth and all other planets within our solar system orbit the Sun – got him in trouble with the Roman Inquisition in 1615. According to the Church, heliocentrism is false and against scripture. Their backgrounds show that they have very few things in common. The Earth orbits at the center of all celestial bodies according to the Bible. Everything out there, including planets and the Sun, orbits (or orbits) the Earth. Cruz isn’t a scientist. To consider Cruz a Galileo-style modern-day scientist is, at the best, wishful naive and at worst just utter rubbish. Galileo was not a scientist. The Church is the bible. He isn’t a scientist, but he disagrees with scientists. These two factors, scientist (Galileo), vs. Church and non-scientists (Cruz), show that Mr. Cruz looks more like Galileo’s modern antithesis. Some might argue that Cruz shares more similarities with the Roman Inquisition. Global warming is not something that has been discussed for hundreds of years. It is science-based and a recent phenomenon. Galileo’s assertion that the Sun orbits planets is a similar argument. How on Earth can Mr. Cruz be Galileo if he refuses to accept the scientific argument? This makes no sense. Everyone knew that the Earth was flat. To make matters worse, Cruz also compared global warming alarmists to Galileo’s “Flat Earthers”. The controversy that erupted hundreds of years ago wasn’t about whether or not the Earth was flat. Everyone knew the Earth was round while Galileo lived. The majority of Christians in the early Christian Church knew the Earth to be a sphere, even Ambrose and Jerome. The debate between ‘Flat Earth and ‘Round Earth was not the main topic of discussion. It was a dispute over whether or not the Earth orbits the Sun. On March 23, , Cruz declared that he was running for the Republican Party nomination to the US Presidential Election. He might want to do more research on his argument before trying to compare himself with brave scientists if he is serious about being considered as a candidate.
