. It began with 202,586 applicants who wanted to be part of a one-way trip to Mars. But now it is 100 for the next round in the Mars One Astronaut Selection process. All 100 candidates from around the globe are one step closer to being the first human to walk on Mars. They will stay there the rest of the lives. Bas Lansdorp (co-founder and CEO of Mars One) said that the large number of applicants is an important step in finding out who can go to Mars. This group of aspiring Martians gives the world a peek into the future. The candidates who are selected will undergo their initial training at a Mars Settlement simulation on Earth to assess whether or not they’re suitable for the mission. After completing personal interviews online with Norbert Kraft (M.D.), the Mission’s Chief Medicine Officer, the 100-shortlist was selected. The one-on-one interview allowed applicants to show their understanding of the risks and team spirit, as well as their desire to be part of this exciting journey. Dr. Kraft stated that they were amazed at the number of strong applicants who participated in the interview round. 100 fifty males and fifty women passed the second round. Threety-one are American, threety-one European, sixteen Asian, seven African, seven Oceania, and seventeen from Asia. Mars One Round Three Candidates has details about the top candidates. There are still challenges for the shortlisted . The selection rounds are yet to be completed. This will allow us to find team members that can manage the challenges of working and living in Mars settlements. They will be given a copy the Mars Outpost (photo above), and their first chance at training. Their ability to work well as a member of a group will be assessed by assessors. Dr. Kraft stated that “being one of the most qualified individual candidates doesn’t automatically make you a great team player. So I look forward seeing how candidates progress in the next challenges. Those who did not get selected for this round will be able to apply in the new round. There will be new opportunities to apply for applicants to replace the teams that were eliminated and to join the colony of settlers who will journey from Earth to Mars. Mars One used only existing technology to launch a colony on Mars and establish a permanent settlement. The Mars One Mission is a crazy idea. The Mars One Project is considered a pipedream by scientists around the globe. It has no prospects of being realised and will most likely fail. NASA doesn’t envision putting a person on Mars in the next few decades. How can crowd-funded, private companies claim that they will settle entire villages of people on this Red Planet? 2024? Mars One’s team of scientists claims that, despite the complexity of its Mission Project, it is possible. The scientists insist that all the technology and science required to put humans on Mars and maintain their presence there are already available. Video: Hannah made the 100 Mars shortlist Hanna is a 23-year-old English Ph.D. student from Durham University. She has now been added to the Mars 100 Shortlist. Hanna stated, “Space travel was a long-held dream. Now I have the chance to do something bigger.” Mars can be a daunting task. This is a high-risk venture, with a great deal of responsibility. I want to make it enviable. You are all welcome to join me on this journey! Follow me on hannahgoestomars.tumblr.com and feel free to say hello! Mars One states on its website that “Mars One was not the only organization to contemplate the possibility of manned missions to Mars.” Many historical documents, from scientific fiction to national space agency dossiers, have blueprints for a Mars settlement. Yet, there has never been a human to land on Mars.” Lansdorp intends to record all of the passengers on their trip and landing on Mars. He says that the film footages would be used for a series TV shows. Mars One Video: Meet the Mars 100
