National Weather Service meteorologists have been watching a low-pressure area move from the USA’s Midwest to the Atlantic Ocean. This has created a strong nor’easter that brings blizzard conditions in the Northeast. NASA captured the system’s trajectory in an image from NOAA’s satellite imagery GOES East. Geostationary Operational Environment Satellite (GOES) is the acronym. An animation has been created using satellite imagery that was captured between January 24th and January 26th. It shows the progress of the nor’easter. Clouds associated with the cold front that preceded the low were pushed offshore by the US East Coast on January 24th. A low pressure area moved southeastward from the Midwest, following the front. On January 26th, the low pressure region moved across the Carolinas to the Atlantic Ocean. The National Weather Service of NOAA stated that the low will intensify along the Eastern Seaboard, bringing severe blizzards to the Northeast on Monday and Tuesday (January 26th) & 27th). On Monday, the National Weather Service stated that a storm system off of the East Coast would continue to grow as it becomes a major nor’easter Monday. The storm is moving up the coast and will bring snowfall of at least 1-3 feet to most parts of the Northeast, New York City, Boston, and other areas, according to the National Weather Service. The southern Appalachians and the Mid-Atlantic are under severe weather alerts. They also apply to parts of the Ohio Valley as well as the interior New England. NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center stated that the “video and imagery were created using NASA/NOAA’s GOES Project in Greenbelt. NASA/NOAA’s GOES Project overlays NOAA’s cloud data on a true-color map of the ocean and land. This image was made by NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (or MODIS) instrument, which flies onboard NASA’s Aqua or Terra satellites.
