Are Electric Cars Really Better For the Environment?

Electric cars are fast approaching! Thanks to batteries, cars can be refueled with electricity instead of gasoline. Fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel are, as you know, is bad for the environment as they emit carbon dioxide. In addition, the oil will run out within a couple of decades. These are problems that we humans face.

Electric cars are highlighted as one of the solutions to climate problems. But are electric cars really better for the environment?

If it is such a simple solution that many seem to think, why doesn’t everyone just go and get an electric car? Some say they do not want to buy an electric car because it is expensive to buy. Then they may not think that the operating cost is much lower. Electric cars are much cheaper to refuel and you save on expensive petrol money.

The environmental gain comes gradually

There are difficulties in producing enough environmentally friendly electricity. Society has come a long way and partly switched to sun, wind, and water. But that doesn’t cover the entire need yet. Thus, the electricity that electric cars are refueled with is partly made up of environmentally friendly methods. Had we been able to supply exclusively renewable electricity, we would have been on target already. But the reality is unfortunately not that way. Here, it is important to look at the matter in a larger perspective. Although all the electricity you refuel with today may not be completely environmentally friendly, it is to some extent. And only there you make an environmental contribution.

By switching to an electric car, you will be able to refuel with a hundred percent renewable energy in the future. By phasing out gasoline-powered cars, we are thus doing the future a favor! That although there are flaws here and now. In addition, an electric car currently saves around 60-70 percent of carbon dioxide emissions compared to driving a regular car.

Opportunities and limitations

Another advantage of electric cars is that electricity does not need to be transported to gas stations like gasoline or diesel. Instead, simply plug the car into the existing power grid. Some think that charging is a limitation that prevents them from switching to electricity. The charging stations are fewer. Furthermore, it takes longer to load the car. Range obviously depends on driving but at least 120 km on a charge. It covers the need for one day for most people. Those who drive long distances may feel limited.

An electric car is more expensive to buy. For a person with a limited budget, it can be a difficult argument to avoid. Just as with solar cell energy, it is expensive at startup but cheap in operating costs. As electric cars become more common, they are already going down in price. Manufacturers are working hard to bring down the price for electric cars. So if you are a person who wants to drive an electric car, but do not feel that you can afford? Look out for the new launches!
