British satellite telecommunications firm Inmarsat plc announced that Inmarsat-5F2 had been launched onboard a Russian ILS rocket (International Launch Services). The Proton BreezeM rocket was launched in Kazakhstan at the Baikonur Cosmodrome on Sunday. ILS confirmed that the spacecraft separated on Feb. 2nd at 04: hours GMT. Inmarsat will be commanding the satellite’s operations team to perform a number of maneuvers in order to lift it to a geosynchronous elliptical orbit over the coming weeks. Inmarsat claims that the satellite’s solar arrays will be deployed by February. Inmarsat-5 F2 is part of a global fleet of satellites. After that, the satellite will enter its electric orbit-raising phase. This will take it to its final geostationary position, which is expected to be complete by March 31st. The satellite should then be available for payload testing in April. Inmarsat-5F2 is part the $1.6 billion company has invested in the next generation global mobile broadband communications. Boeing Satellite Systems International Inc. built the satellite. Inmarsat Global Xpress Inmarsat, which is both the commercial operator of the constellation and the owner thereof, will be the first global high-speed broadband network. The company claims that it will provide seamless and universally available super-high speed broadband connectivity to all three locations – provided only by one operator. Rupert Pearce is Inmarsat CEO. He stated that “The launch of Inmarsat-5 F3 by Proton was a major step in our quest to provide the first global, fast mobile broadband service.” Inmarsat’s first GX satellite went into commercial service in July 2014. Since then, it has been providing excellent services to customers across Europe, Africa, and Asia. “The launch of Inmarsat-5F3 by Proton is expected to occur in the second half HTML1. “This is an amazing achievement.
