Large Hadron Collider to Restart after Short Circuit Problem Fixed

Large Hadron Collider, the world’s most powerful and largest particle accelerator (LHC) will restart this weekend after researchers fixed the short circuit that delayed the arrival of particles beams in March. CERN, which operates and built the LHC (Conseil Europeen pour la Recherche Nucleaire- European Council for Nuclear Research), said that the restart of the particle collider was delayed due to an intermittent short circuit within one its magnet circuits. This problem was identified on 21stMarch. It stated that the delay might take many weeks. CERN today informed that the teams were completing their final testing, and the first beams will likely be in circulation sometime between Saturday and Sunday. The graph shows that all LHC magnets had completed training in order to achieve the beams of 6.5 TeV. Each of 8 LHC sectors are represented by coloured symbols. The time in days is indicated by the x-axis. CERN Director for Accelerators and Technology Frederick Bordry said that the LHC’s 8 sectors are represented by coloured symbols. X axis is time in days. Operators will be working in shifts in the control area, day and night, when the Large Hadron Collider and all the accelerator chains are operating. The operators will attempt to move beams through the LHC in both directions at the injection energy of 450 VeV. LHC Upgrade Over the past two years, major upgrades and maintenance have been performed on the LHC. Today, it is 65% much more powerful than in 2013.. It is an accelerator that speeds up subatomic particles to very near the speed of light by using electromagnetic or electric fields. It is also known as a particle accelerator. It is a particle accelerator that accelerates particles into each other. This can be used to create high-energy X/gamma radiations or as research techniques. When it is up and running, LHC’s collision energy will be 13 TeV (Terraelectron-Volts) compared to its previous 8 TeV. LHC proved the existence of the Higgs Boson, sometimes called the “God Particle”, a subatomic particle that was previously only theoretically known. Scientists now believe that there is a whole Higgs family, five types, of Higgs bosons. Scientists believe that proving their existence would be the greatest achievement in physics. This is what they hope LHC can do. Scientists believe that LHC, now more powerful than ever before, might be able to prove the Big Bang — the birth of the Universe– was not real. CERN claims that particle collisions with an energy of 13 TEV could start as early as June. Video: What’s CERN?
