If you forget your passcode, your iPhone is locked. Unfortunately, you can’t recover your passcode. The passcode is gone. Not all data is gone. This is where data becomes your greatest concern. How can you lose all of your messages and photos? There’s an easy way to get out.
You can restore iPhone back to its original state before it was locked. You won’t lose any data. It will be complicated. It will be necessary to wipe your phone, then to restore it. However, you can restore data from backups.
The Catch…
Even if your iPhone is locked, you can still back it up. You can restore your iPhone using this method without losing any data.
You can back up your iPhone without having to unlock it. As long as you have backed up the iPhone once and added the Mac/PC to the trusted device list, the iPhone will be available for backup again. This method will not work if your iPhone hasn’t been backed-up to a Mac/PC before.
Step 1: Connect your iPhone to the Mac or PC using the Lightning cable.
Step 2: Open iTunes and select your device from the top left menu.
Step 3: Just wait while iTunes start syncing your device automatically.
Wait until your backup is completed. You’ll find the date stamp for the most recent backup in the main menu. You can confirm that the time stamp is valid for the backup just created.
If the backup doesn’t work automatically, it might be that you have disabled a feature to prevent iOS devices from automatically syncing. Open the iTunes Preferences, go to Devices and uncheck the Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically.

If you have a backup of your iPhone, don’t worry. We’ll restore the backup that we created in step 1.

Step 2: Authenticate and confirm your action on the next step and wait. iTunes will automatically download and install the most recent software. This can take more than 30 minutes, depending on your internet connection.
Step 3: Once the restore process is done, iTunes will ask you how you want to set up the new device. Select the Restore iTunes backup option. Select the latest backup.
After the restore process is completed, the iPhone will be in its original state. You should find all your data and apps.

If your iPhone has Find My iPhone turned on and is locked, it might be difficult to restore it. The activation lock will also be enabled if Find my iPhone has been turned on. You must first turn off Find My iPhone before you can use any third-party app to get rid of the passcode lock.

From the list, find the iOS device and click the X button next to it. You will also be able to disable Find My iPhone and your iCloud account.

Using iCloud backup is a way to get around this. After restoring the device, if you have enabled iCloud Backup to contacts, apps, or data you can easily restore them all. Log into iCloud.com to remove your device from Find My iPhone.

Now let go of the Power/Side button and keep holding the Volume Down button until your device enters recovery mode. If you’re using an older iPhone, use the Home + Power button combination instead.
Step 4: In the next step confirm the details of your iOS device and download the latest firmware.
Step 5: Once the firmware has been downloaded, click on the Unlock Now button and wait. Allow the app to do its job. It will then reinstall OS. It may take some time.
Step 6: If the process was successful, you’ll see that your phone lock was removed successfully. Don’t despair if it doesn’t work the first time. You can always try again.
